Focus on Core Competencies Pays Dividends Boston, MA - October 17, 2005 - "GaAs Device Vendor Market Share 2004: Asia-Pacific and Europe," from Strategy Analytics concludes that Eudyna Devices has successfully combined the core strengths of Fujitsu Quantum Devices and Sumitomo Electric Industries to grab a top five spot in the $2.4 billion worldwide GaAs device market. Significantly, Eudyna Devices moved ahead of its other Japanese rivals in 2004 and was the largest Japanese supplier of GaAs devices in 2004.
Overall, Japanese companies represented around 18 percent of the total GaAs device market, with five of the top ten companies coming from Japan. Along with Eudyna Devices, Sony, Matsushita, Mitsubishi Electric and NEC are the leading GaAs device vendors from Japan.
"Eudyna Devices has a wide portfolio of technologies under its belt drawn from capabilities at its former parents," notes Asif Anwar, Director, Strategy Analytics GaAs and Compound Semiconductor Technologies service. "A focus on core strengths paid dividends in 2004 with growth in wireless infrastructure and fiber-optics markets."
"It is the combined focus on wireless infrastructure and fiber-optic markets that allowed Eudyna Devices to move ahead of its peers in 2004. The company doesn't compete with Sony or Matsushita in the MMIC segment, and Mitsubishi Electric was undoubtedly the largest supplier of GaAs discretes in 2004," observed Stephen Entwistle, Vice President, Strategic Technologies Practice.
