Motorola Will Expand 2006 Share As CDMA Becomes PriorityBoston, MA - November 14, 2005 - The latest Strategy Analytics Wireless Device Strategies (WDS) report, "North America Handset Market Q3' 2005," finds that LG Electronics and Samsung have solidified their positions, at 20 percent and 17 percent respectively, reigning with Motorola as top 3 handset share leaders in the North American market for Q3 2005.
Strategy Analytics expects that these vendors will maintain their positions through 2006 as they continue to set style/design and product delivery benchmarks that consistently outpace their closest competitors.
"While the Korean stars battle each other, Motorola continues to dominate. Motorola has extended its leading share position this quarter and is now focusing on CDMA product expansion. The design expertise that has driven GSM sales over the last year will allow Motorola to expand its CDMA market share above the 17percent it currently holds, and push its overall North America share position above 35 percent in 2006," states David Kerr, Vice President of the Global Wireless Practice at Strategy Analytics.
"LG is showing the highest level of sales from new products, flexibility in responding to operator needs and an impressively consistent time-to-market performance," states Chris Ambrosio, Director of the Strategy Analytics Wireless Device Strategies service. "While there are some likely inventory issues that will impact volumes in Q4 2005, LG has the coordinated strategy to maintain and extend a top three share position in the US through 2006."
