Media Content Consumption Surging
Boston, MA - March 26, 2007 - Demand for access to Web service via mobile phone continues to grow strongly in the US. Most respondents to a recent Strategy Analytics survey identified a preference for Google Search, with Yahoo! services and iTunes close behind. These survey results support the Strategy Analytics view that carriers must partner with these brands in order to pull demand through for their data access plans. While interest levels in mobile TV are moderately high, this interest is not yet matched by willingness to pay for services. Consequently, acceptable advertising solutions and/or bundling mobile TV into wider service contracts will most likely be required in order to drive widespread consumer adoption.
David Kerr, Vice President of the Global Wireless Practice at Strategy Analytics, states, "US Mobile users continue to have an unquenchable appetite for mobile data applications. Buyers want their content, internet and social networking brands on the mobile but are reluctant to pay any premium for mobility. Alternatives to the traditional `user pays per event' model must be developed."
Research presented at an exclusive Strategy Analytics breakfast presentation during this week's CTIA Wireless conference will include findings from the latest Strategy Analytics consumer survey in the US.
Analysts will be on hand to discuss which services consumers are buying now, what media brands users really want on their phones and which hot services consumers identify as "MUST HAVE."
Key questions answered will include:
- What percentage of users would switch operators to get advertising-supported free TV?
- What percentage of users want Google search compared to YouTube?
- How many users currently browse Web/ WAP sites from their mobile?
- What percentage of users would switch carriers for unlimited Web browsing?
- Only 5% download music files today, but what percentage is interested in doing so?
- How important is buying a phone on same network as friends and family?
- Why do 32% of Bluetooth Headset buyers rank listening to music as their most important purchase factor?
