Boston, MA - January 16, 2008 -European BSPs added 5 million incremental subscribers in the third quarter of 2007, representing a six percent sequential growth rate, according to the Strategy Analytics report, "Broadband Service Provider Performance Benchmarking: Europe Q3 2007."
France Telecom, which experienced an impressive 911,000 "bump" in the third quarter, continues to lead the European market. The gain is largely attributable to the acquisition and integration of Spanish broadband provider Ya.com.
"As the European broadband market matures, we expect to see less organic, and more acquisition-driven growth," says Ben Piper, Director of the Strategy Analytics Broadband Networking Strategies service.
Number two European Broadband Service Provider, Deutsche Telekom, added 500,000 new subs in the third quarter-the result of aggressive "double play" and "triple play" marketing campaigns. The company, which is 32 percent owned by the German government, has been under scrutiny amid calls from competitors for regulatory relief.
