Discoverability of Carousel a Challenge
Boston, MA - March 11, 2008 - The latest Strategy Analytics Wireless Media Lab benchmark report, "Yahoo! Go 3.0 Shines in US Market Benchmark," evaluates the recently launched Yahoo! Go 3.0 mobile portal application across a number of core features including email, news, sports, weather and travel.
Yahoo! Go 3.0 was rated well for finding sports results, checking the weather and locating traffic information. Two minor usability issues were observed related to locating news and tagging photographs for upload to Flickr. Discoverability of the carousel menu was also a problem for many users.
"Most participants were impressed with the Yahoo! Go application," commented Paul Brown, Senior User Experience Research Analyst at Strategy Analytics. "Participants showed a strong interest in adding the Yahoo! Go application to their phones."
David Kerr, VP of the Global Wireless Practice, added, "Strategy Analytics recommends that Yahoo! actively directs consumers to the carousel feature. Highlighting the carousel feature in order to prevent users from straying to suboptimal routes for application access is the main weakness of an otherwise excellent solution."
