Radio Chipmakers Promote Advances at Mobile World Congress
LTE and Femtocell Chip Vendors Push for Growth
Boston, MA - March 5, 2009 -- The Strategy Analytics RF & Wireless Components Service report, "MWC 2009: LTE and Femtocells Poised for Growth," details and analyzes the most significant new developments in chips for mobile devices presented at Mobile World Congress this year in Barcelona by more than 25 vendors. According to the report, the supply of new radio chips for LTE and femtocells will pave the way for industry growth.
"LTE chips and chipsets from mainstream chipmakers, including ST-Ericsson, Qualcomm and Infineon, will reach the market starting in 2010," notes Chris Taylor, author of the report. "Whether operators will choose to delay rolling out LTE in view of the current global economic conditions remains an open question, but the chipmakers have decided not to wait."
Stephen Entwistle, Vice President of the Strategic Technologies Practice at Strategy Analytics, adds, "Several other themes emerged at MWC that offer glimpses of the future, including chipsets for the universal femtocell, modules for drastically simplified bills of material in multi-mode cellphones and wireless chargers to eliminate incompatible "wall-wart" chargers.
