VoIP and Maps Most Appealing; Teens Want Social Networking Apps
London, UK - May 19, 2009 – The Strategy Analytics Wireless Device Lab report, “Over 90% of Feature Phone Owners Want to Download Apps,” found that non-Smartphone owners show a strong interest in downloading and installing applications onto their mobile device.
VoIP, Instant Messaging and Navigation/Mapping applications are of greatest interest to feature phone owners. Additionally, respondents under the age of 30 are more interested in having applications on their phone than older users.
“With feature phone owners demonstrating a strong interest in having applications on their device, device manufacturers, operators and content providers have an opportunity to target a wider audience outside the Smartphone application market, which is becoming increasingly crowded.” commented Paul Brown, Senior Analyst in the Strategy Analytics User Experience Practice.
Kevin Nolan, Vice President at Strategy Analytics, added “For those under 30, applications that provide direct access to Social Networking profiles are of particular interest.”
