Verizon Quad Play Lacks Mobile Messaging and Data
Comcast, Cox and Verizon Quad Play Comparison
Boston, MA - December 8, 2009 – As competition heats up for Quad Play revenues, Verizon may drop to second place against Comcast and Cox, unless it supplements its mobile voice bundle with mobile messaging or data services. According to ‘Verizon Quad Play: Optimal Tariffs in Competition with Comcast and Cox,’ a new in-depth analysis from the Strategy Analytics Tariff and Revenue Strategies (TRS) service, legacy telephone operators should consider including several non-voice mobile services in their Quad Play bundles. The households most interested in moving to Quad Play are those that are least responsive to Verizon’s most recently announced mobile voice-only bundles.
Sue Rudd, Director of the Tariff and Revenue Service, notes, “Verizon’s focus on mobile voice in its Quad Play bundle leaves a lot of money on the table for the competition—cable operators who focus on fixed broadband with mobile data. Either mobile data service or MMS service can increase potential revenues from a Quad Play bundle by over 60 percent.”
This Strategy Analytics report analyzes multiple competitive Quad Play Scenarios for Verizon, Comcast and Cox, in order to identify the combinations which maximize revenue for each operator. Sue Rudd continues, “Operators need to beware of over-discounting bundles for which users will pay more. One operator may even be able to charge more than another for the same bundle.”
In a competitive market, Quad Play providers will need to balance their service bundles to attract customers and gain share while maximizing profitability and minimizing ‘self –cannibalization.’ The new Strategy Analytics Tariff Response Model (TRM) enables service providers to rigorously test feature combinations and project bottom-line impact before launching new multi-play offerings.
