Connectivity Solutions Will Be Installed in 95% of Vehicles by 2012
Boston, MA – May 17, 2010 – Automotive connectivity solutions—ranging from 3.5mm auxiliary input, USB and Bluetooth, through to WiFi, 3G, LTE/4G, WiMAX and DSRC—will require automakers and Tier One suppliers to pay attention to implementation and supply needs for both wired and wireless automotive connectivity solutions through 2016. The Strategy Analytics Automotive Mulltimedia and Communications Service (AMCS) report, “Automotive Connectivity – Beyond Bluetooth Solutions,” takes into account the concerns of vehicle manufacturers and Tier One suppliers regarding:
- The rapid consumer adoption of smartphones;
- The emergence of connected devices; and
- Mobile broadband solutions.
Each of these groups will need to have a clear connectivity development roadmap that will be highly specific to the automotive market, and differentiated by region.
“As consumers use more sophisticated portable devices, such as smartphones that integrate audio and video media, text messaging, internet browsing and location based technologies, connectivity must be extended into the automotive space,” remarked Mark Fitzgerald, Senior Analyst in Strategy Analytics Global Automotive Practice. It is essential for in-vehicle infotainment systems to incorporate the appropriate connectivity solutions to leverage the features and applications of these devices.”
