Qualcomm, Intel and MediaTek Vie for Top Spots

report, Qualcomm -- with 41.7 percent revenue share -- ranked number one in Q2 2011, followed by Intel, MediaTek, Texas Instruments and ST-Ericsson. On-going radio technology transitions across the globe are providing new growth opportunities. Most baseband vendors registered impressive unit shipment and revenue growth in Q2 2011.
“Broadcom and Spreadtrum continue to be two of the fastest growing baseband companies. Strategy Analytics estimates that both companies showed triple-digit unit shipment growth in Q2 2011,” commented Sravan Kundojjala, Senior Analyst. “Broadcom and Spreadtrum can gain further share by expanding into the 3G and 4G baseband markets in the next few years.”
“Intel W-CDMA baseband shipments showed an impressive 76 percent year-on-year growth in Q2 2011, which firmly established Intel as a strong number two to Qualcomm in the W-CDMA market,” noted Stuart Robinson, Director, Handset Component Technologies service. Robinson added, “In Q2 of 2011, thirty-five percent of Intel total baseband shipments were W-CDMA.”
