Boston, MA - November 2, 2011 – An analysis of Fixed Broadband Tariffs from the Strategy Analytics Fixed Broadband Price Benchmarking Service, “The Cost of Fiber-Based Broadband,” shows that fiber-based offerings are increasingly available across 40 countries and now account for over twenty-five percent of all broadband packages. A key finding from the analysis is that fixed Broadband delivers higher speeds at significantly lower costs than traditional xDSL counterparts.

 

Report author, Josie Sephton, says, “While the findings paint a fast evolving, and very positive picture for fiber, widespread availability within each country generally remains limited and will be for some time to come.  Moreover, Strategy Analytics has noted that a few carriers have introduced usage caps on fiber-based services.  This is somewhat unexpected—at least for  now.  Although the caps seem fairly generous so far, capping service use is an area to watch out for in the future.”
