Corporate Cloud Readiness Assessments Focus on Technology. Business? Not so Much
Considering Business Factors is Just as Important When Choosing among Cloud Options
Boston, MA - August 8, 2012 – Business cloud readiness assessments do a good job exploring technology issues. What about business issues? Not so much. That is the message from the Strategy Analytics Extended Enterprise Software Strategies report "Getting Down to Business with Cloud Readiness Assessments" The report takes a look at examples of assessment tools and services currently available from 12 cloud product vendors and service providers in light of key findings from the recent Global Enterprise Cloud Adoption Survey.
The report found that online cloud readiness assessment tools available from companies such as Cisco, EMC, HP, Microsoft, Rackspace, and VMware can effectively engage customers and prospects in considering technology factors when making decisions and planning relating to business clouds. However, these tools tend not to encourage sufficient consideration of workforce and other business factors that can differ by organization. Cloud readiness assessments done as part of live workshops or one-on-one interactive sessions led by consultants or other partners representing companies such as CSC, Fujitsu, IBM, Oracle, SAP, SunGard, as well as the other companies listed above can do a better job of exploring potential business benefits from clouds, in addition to addressing technology benefits and requirements. Faced with having to choose from many different business cloud type and delivery model options, customers would benefit from considering all factors relevant to their organizations including industry, size and corporate culture.
"Business clouds present great opportunities for change that extend far beyond the technical aspects of how corporate IT departments deliver resources to business users," said Mark Levitt, Director, Enterprise Software and Communications (ESC) at Strategy Analytics. "That’s why every cloud vendor and service provider should offer cloud readiness assessments tools and services that engage customers to focus on both business and technology factors."
"Business users are looking to the clouds to provide better access to corporate applications and information," said Gina Luk, Senior Analyst, Mobile Workforce Strategies (MWS) at Strategy Analytics. "The clouds that will be chosen to support business users must address the needs of today’s changing workforces."
Join us for a webinar “"Benefiting from Business Clouds Depends on Asking the Right Questions"” on August 16 that will present highlights from this report and the global enterprise cloud adoption survey.
