Tablet Apps Processor Revenue Jumped 52 Percent in Q1 2013
Apple and Samsung Together Capture 50 Percent Share
Boston, MA - July 11, 2013 – The global tablet processor market continued to show strength and registered an impressive 52 percent year-on-year growth to reach $0.74 billion in Q1 2013, according to the Strategy Analytics Handset Component Technologies (HCT) service report, "Tablet Apps Processor Market Share Q1 2013: Apple and Samsung Together Grab 50 Percent Revenue Share."
According to this Strategy Analytics report, Apple, Texas Instruments (TI), Samsung, NVIDIA and Intel captured the top-five revenue share rankings in the tablet applications processor market in Q1 2013. Apple maintained its lead with 40 percent revenue share in the tablet applications processor market in Q1 2013, followed by TI with 13 percent share and Samsung with 10 percent share.
According to Sravan Kundojjala, Senior Analyst, "Strategy Analytics estimates that the Chinese and Taiwanese tablet chip companies together captured 29 percent volume share in the tablet applications processor market in Q1 2013. Among these companies, MediaTek made significant progress with the help of design-wins at Acer, Asus and Lenovo and is well-positioned to grab double-digit share in non-iPad tablets this year."
According to Stuart Robinson, Director of the Strategy Analytics Handset Component Technologies service, "Samsung’s tablet applications processor shipments registered five-fold growth in Q1 2013, thanks to its in-house customer Samsung Mobile. However, Samsung is likely to come under pressure from external suppliers such as Intel and Marvell who scored mass-market tablet design-wins at Samsung Mobile recently."
