Clamshell Mobile Devices Less Popular
Black is the New Black
Boston, MA - 13 January 2009 - In "Black is the New Black: Clamshell Form Factor Popularity Declines," the Strategy Analytics Wireless Device Lab shows its latest buyer behavior research on consumer interest and preference for mobile device form factor and color.
Interest in traditional bar and clamshell form factors has dropped in both the US and Western Europe since 2006. In Western Europe, respondents are most likely to consider purchasing a slider phone. Male respondents showed greatest interest in a slate or wireless PDA form factor.
"In the US, a clamshell is still the most favored form," commented Paul Brown, Senior User Experience Analyst at Strategy Analytics. "However it is not as popular as it used to be; in fact interest has declined by 16 points since 2006".
Kevin Nolan, VP at Strategy Analytics, added "Black was by far the most preferred color for respondents in both the US and Western Europe, replacing silver as the color of choice."
