Cloud Computing Becoming more Critical

STRATEGY ANALYTICS: Cloud Computing Becoming more Critical

Recession Response and Real-Time Networking

London, UK - 5 March 2009 - -The recent Strategy Analytics Wireless Enterprise Strategies report, "What Does Cloud Computing Really Mean for the Enterprise and Mobility?" examines the current state of cloud computing overall, the platforms and business models, where the greatest opportunities exist and what this means for the enterprise and enterprise mobility in the future.

Recent "outages" on Google's Cloud computing platform and the reliance of real-time social networking functions, such as Twitter on Amazon's EC2 Cloud platform are examples of the growing importance of cloud computing platforms. A number of businesses are starting to rely on cloud platforms on cost saving grounds.

However, cloud computing is still in its infancy. Major players such as Google (Apps) and Microsoft (Azure), are looking to build future platforms around a "connected" infrastructure. It will allow for a range of devices to access the same services via rich browsers as well as dedicated thin clients. In business, cloud computing resonates with the current consolidation and cost saving drive in business towards virtualization. It will ultimately drive rich SaaS (Software as a Service), software plus services and PaaS (Platform as a Service) beyond Salesforce.com, into many companies, especially to small and medium size organizations.

"The collaboration capabilities that cloud computing models enable, are aimed at changing the way people do business, allowing users to interact with information and each other in a new way. Combined with increasingly pervasive mobility, this can have a major impact on the pace of business and the effectiveness of communication and collaboration." commented the author of this report, Andrew Brown, Director of the Strategy Analytics Wireless Enterprise Strategies service.
