Broadband Prices Significantly Lower in Eastern Europe than Southern Europe
Despite Different Speeds Regional Similarities in Price
Boston, MA & London, UK –October 5, 2010 - The September update of T-Connect, the comprehensive Fixed Broadband Price Benchmarking system from Strategy Analytics, reveals the diversity of broadband offerings from 30 European countries. Both Prices and Bitrates vary immensely across Europe.
Reviewing the lowest price offerings in each country this research shows that the five least expensive countries in Europe are Romania, Lithuania, Estonia, Bulgaria and Latvia. The average price across these five countries is only 35% of the total simple average price across Europe, which is close to 20 Euros per month. On the other hand, rates in the five most expensive countries -- Malta, Norway, Greece, Cyprus and Spain—are 68% above the European average, nearly 5 times the price of the aforementioned Eastern European countries. Norway stands out with high broadband prices despite their normally low prices for other telecom services.
Tariff Analyst, Nacera Touileb, says, “There is great diversity in the offers in different countries, without any necessary correlation between speed and price.”
Service Director, Halvor Sannaes, adds, “The Strategy Analytics T-Connect service sees growth in high-speed offerings. It is common in most countries to offer speeds above 10Mb/s, while the prices for such offers can vary from about 5 Euro up to over 100 Euro a month.”
