Mobile Device Proliferation in Workplace Alarms IT Managers

Personal-Liable Devices at Enterprise Tipping Point

Boston, MA - December 14, 2010 –The tide of personal devices entering business operations reached unprecedented levels in 2010. More than 57% of IT managers denied personal-liable devices from connecting to corporate systems. While 81% believe smartphone proliferation is under control in their organizations, 75% of IT managers are significantly concerned about separating personal data from business data on smartphones.

Two Strategy Analytics Wireless Enterprise Strategies (WES) service reports highlight the growing complexity of personal and corporate liable devices in the workplace from the perspectives of IT decision makers and employees:
Contrary to popular belief, it is note the volume of requests, but management seniority, that is responsible for the vast majority of personal liable devices entering the enterprise.

“Beyond the device, the greatest security concern continues to be a matter of content,” commented Andrew Brown Director of Wireless Enterprise Strategies. “Many companies have no way of managing when an employee leaves with a personal-liable device that had been connected to the company network. In fact, 63% of companies simply “trust” users to remove company data from their phones upon departure.”

This Wireless Enterprise Strategies report also covers:
  • The growing proliferation of Personal-Liable Devices in the workplace;
  • The challenges faced by IT managers to support Personal-Liable Devices and applications;
  • The need for better business and IT policies for mobility; and
  • The need for better mobility management policies in the workplace.
