Tier One Automotive Infotainment Suppliers Ride the Revenue Wave

Boston, MA January 12, 2011 -- The Strategy Analytics Automotive Multimedia and Communications Service (AMCS) forecasts a doubling of the global Tier 1 supplier revenue opportunity by 2017 as compared to the lows of 2009, especially in light of a substantial upward revision of China’s vehicle production numbers. The OEM market will be the backbone of this success story with revenues forecast to rise to $32 Billion in 2017, an amount higher than the combined value of the OEM, Aftermarket and Portable Navigation Device (PND) revenues of 2009.

The automotive aftermarket, however, will experience an entirely different environment with revenues forecast to drop between 2009 and 2017. PND’s in particular are the main downer with device vendors left to scrap over a market that was worth nearly $10 Billion in 2008, and will be worth just $2.3 Billion in 2017. Much of the aftermarket upside will derive from Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as Tablet/iPad and Smartphone integration.

Strategy Analytics is bullish about the prospects for the automotive semiconductor suppliers, with annual revenues forecast to rise to over $7 Billion by 2017.

“Once again the OEM market will drive growth, with a CAGR of over 10%, and revenues up from just $2.3 Billion in 2009 to over $5 Billion in 2017,” said Richard Robinson, Director of Automotive services at Strategy Analytics. “Our latest forecasts see application-specific silicon revenues sustaining a CAGR of 8.5% between 2009 and 2017, while microcontrollers will sustain a CAGR of 12% and Memory 17.5%.”
