Automotive OEM and Aftermarket Infotainment Systems Set to Grow by One-Third

Panasonic Outpaces Hitachi, Harman and Alpine

Boston, MA - May 3, 2011 – The Strategy Analytics Automotive Multimedia and Communications Service (AMCS)  predicts that the rise in global vehicle production and increased use of infotainment solutions for communications, entertainment and navigation is driving global market revenue for automotive OEM infotainment systems. This market will grow from $20.46 billion in 2010 to $35.89 billion in 2018, a CAGR of 7.3 percent, as seen in the report, “Strategy Analytics: Automotive Infotainment Q2 2011: Japan Turmoil Disrupts Infotainment Supply Chain in 2011.”

“The earthquake in Japan will severely curtail 2011 vehicle production in Q2 and Q3,” said Mark Fitzgerald, Associate Director in the Strategy Analytics North American Automotive Services.  “The infotainment supply chain is feeling the ramifications of parts shortages and vehicle production disruptions.”

Panasonic maintained its position as the largest Tier 1 supplier for both OEM and aftermarket infotainment and telematics systems with a global market share of 9.9 percent.

“While Panasonic kept the number one spot on the market share list, Hitachi and Harman are growing at a faster rate,” said Richard Robinson, a Director in the Strategy Analytics Automotive Multimedia and Communications Service. “Japan dominates the infotainment landscape with over 53 percent of the market in 2010.
