Energy Management and Remote Monitoring and Control will Drive Western Europe Smart Home Revenues to $10 Billion
Over 30 Million Households in Western Europe Will Have Smart Systems by 2017
Boston, MA - May 3, 2012 – Increasing demand for self-monitoring and control services offered by broadband service providers such as BT, France Telecom, SFR, Swisscom and Telefonica, along with remote-enabled entertainment controls and smart appliances from the likes of Bosch Siemens will drive the bulk of households that adopt smart home systems and services in Western Europe, according to the latest Strategy Analytics Smart Home Strategies (SHS) research, “Smart Home Systems and Services Forecast: Western Europe.” Twenty percent of broadband households in Western Europe will have at least one smart home solution by 2017; the most popular will be remote monitoring and control systems like video cameras, motion sensors, thermostats and entertainment systems. Strategy Analytics predicts that smart home services revenues in the region will exceed $2 billion by 2017.
“Home energy management will be a primary driver in some Western European countries, such as Germany, where Deutsche Telekom and its partners E.ON, EnBW, eQ-3, Meile, Samsung and Winkle are addressing smart home opportunities with the QIVICON offering. Motivations will vary by country, but service providers will stimulate demand across the region with an array of smart home services designed to generate additional revenues in order to offset declining growth in traditional businesses,” stated Bill Ablondi, Director, Smart Home Strategies advisory service.
This SHS research also assesses the opportunity for other emerging smart home services, such as digital health systems, which offer professionally monitored home-based healthcare services, and smart appliances, like refrigerators integrated with automatic food monitoring and ordering technologies. <
